BTX matrix-multiplication proof-of-work mining update

BTX's Mining Algorithm Gets Harder, and That's the Point

BTX's proof-of-work isn't a SHA-256 hash lottery. It runs on MatMul mining -- proof-of-work built on matrix-multiplication, the same class of computation that powers modern AI models. Miners point real GPUs, Apple Silicon and CPUs at BTX's chain, and the same hardware can be redirected to open AI models or numerical workloads when it isn't mining.

Jonathan Teo, an early Snapchat and Instagram investor known in Silicon Valley for early-stage picks, posts on BTX under the handle qubixt and has been closely tracking the project's technical roadmap. In an Instagram post yesterday, he described a new work-algorithm revision -- v4.6 -- as "a leap in technical complexity," calling BTX "the only work chain requiring AI-exact computation as proof" and framing each mining episode as converging compute, memory and connectivity into one deterministic result, with more than two quadrillion operations per episode. Those are his characterizations of the update, shared as alpha ahead of any official announcement -- BTX's public site, btx.dev, still lists v0.33.1 as current and is expected to update once the new algorithm ships.

What is confirmed on BTX's official site today: the chain runs a capped 21 million maximum supply, post-quantum signatures are already in production for ordinary transfers (not just on a roadmap), and mining runs on the MatMul primitive rather than single-purpose ASIC hardware.

Teo has also framed BTX as a hedge asset for the current AI capital cycle -- his thesis is that every major capital cycle manufactures its own hedge, and that permanent AI compute demand is not guaranteed, which is exactly the kind of uncertainty a scarce, independently-issued asset can hedge against. It's a similar logic to how gold or Bitcoin get pitched as hedges against a specific macro thesis, applied here to AI capex instead.

bonuz supports BTX in its self-custodial mobile wallet (Send, Receive, Buy, no seed phrase) and via the PQ wallet at btx.dev -- BTX is mineable, and already held in size by bonuz users.
