DMCC Chief Wins Dubai-it Award, What It Means for Bonuz
On 4 November, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed named Ahmed Bin Sulayem the top Project Manager in Dubai's first Dubai-it Award. He leads DMCC, the free zone that hosts the Dubai company behind bonuz's apps. For everyday wallet holders, the win signals steady ground under the ecosystem's home base.
What actually happened
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, announced six Dubai-it Award winners this week, according to Gulf News. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, won the Project Managers category for building Dubai's diamond trade and other sector hubs. Other winners included Emirates NBD, Omniyat's Mahdi Amjad, Ounass, Humantra's Charlie Wright and Chef Izu Ani, per Entrepreneur Middle East. Sheikh Hamdan said the award reflects Dubai's work philosophy in action across every field. DMCC now counts more than 26,000 member companies from over 180 countries and employs more than 90,000 people. Bin Sulayem has chaired DMCC since 2007.
How we got here
DMCC started as a free zone for commodities trade and grew under Bin Sulayem's leadership into a cluster of specialised centres. Diamonds, gold, coffee and tea trading sit beside the DMCC Crypto Centre, the Gaming Centre, the AI Centre and the newer DMCC Quantum zone for post-quantum technology. Bonuz Technology DMCC, the Dubai entity behind bonuz's consumer apps, has operated from the Crypto Centre inside Uptown Tower since 2021. Over five years, that team has written close to 2.2 million lines of code building the wallet and app products bonuz.market users rely on daily.
Why this matters for you
For everyday bonuz users, the award itself changes little day to day. What matters is the signal: the free zone hosting bonuz's development team just received Dubai's top civic recognition for execution and impact. That matters for trust in long-term infrastructure, not just hype cycles. Bonuz plans to register a post-quantum login module inside DMCC Quantum, a step toward stronger account security for wallet holders. Builders weighing where to base crypto or AI projects in the Gulf also get a data point, a zone with 26,000 companies and proven longevity across diamonds, gold, gaming and AI now has quantum-ready infrastructure too.
The bigger question
DMCC built its reputation on physical commodities, then added crypto, gaming, AI and now quantum technology inside the same zone. Can one hub keep absorbing entirely new industries without diluting its core strength, or does breadth itself become the advantage as digital and physical trade increasingly overlap? The answer could shape how other free zones decide whether to specialise narrowly or diversify broadly.
What to watch
Bonuz plans to register its post-quantum login module within DMCC Quantum, though no public date is confirmed yet. Future Dubai-it Award cycles could show whether crypto and AI-native companies get recognised alongside established names like Emirates NBD. Wallet users should watch for bonuz announcements tied to the DMCC Quantum registration, since that module could affect account security on bonuz.market.
