Ethereum Institutional Closes First Funding Round With Over 100 Backers

Ethereum Institutional, an independent non-profit focused on accelerating institutional adoption of Ethereum and its Layer 2 ecosystem, announced it has closed its initial ecosystem funding round.

The round's anchor funders are Bitmine, SharpLink, Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, and Mihai Alisie, a co-founder of Ethereum itself. Beyond the anchors, the round drew backing from more than 100 ecosystem participants spanning nearly every layer of the Ethereum stack: infrastructure providers (Chainlink, Consensys, Flashbots, EigenCloud), Layer 2 networks (Arbitrum, Optimism, Linea, zkSync, Ink, Soneium), DeFi protocols (Aave, Uniswap, Curve, Compound, Morpho, Euler), custody and institutional access players (Anchorage Digital, Ledger Enterprise, Circle, Robinhood Chain), and data and analytics firms (Dune, DeFiLlama, Etherscan, Token Terminal).

The breadth of the backer list signals a coordinated push across the Ethereum ecosystem to build the rails institutions need to hold, stake, and deploy capital on-chain: compliance tooling, custody integrations, liquid staking, and risk infrastructure among them.

Ethereum Institutional describes its mission as accelerating adoption "of Ethereum, its L2s, applications and overall ecosystem" for institutional players. The organization operates as an independent non-profit rather than a foundation-run initiative, positioning it as a neutral coordination layer between traditional finance and the Ethereum ecosystem.

The announcement lands at a moment when institutional interest in Ethereum has been building steadily, with treasury companies, staking providers, and custody platforms all expanding their Ethereum-focused offerings over the past year.
