Neocloud Stocks Sink as Gartner Warns on AI Bubble

Neocloud Stock Crash: What It Means for Wallet Users

Neocloud stocks CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN dropped sharply in October 2026 after Gartner warned most GPU cloud providers will not survive independently past 2030. Anyone holding AI infrastructure shares, crypto miner stock or compute tokens through a wallet now faces a clearer signal on how this debt-fueled buildout gets repaid.

What actually happened

Gartner said on 14 October 2026 that cost pressure and weak differentiation will push over 80% of neocloud providers out of independent operation by 2030, Decrypt reported. The firm flagged over $3.5 trillion (USD) in AI infrastructure spending at risk of impairment by then. By 21 October 2026, CoreWeave's unsecured debt yielded near 15%, with bond default-insurance costs up 30% in a month. CoreWeave shares fell 29% in October, cutting its value to about $34 billion (USD) from a 2025 peak near $90 billion (USD). Nebius slid 27%; IREN dropped 32%. Co-founder Brannin McBee said nearly all 2027 capacity is booked, with contracts into 2028.

How we got here

Neoclouds grew out of the GPU shortage that followed ChatGPT's launch, when demand outpaced what Amazon, Microsoft and Google could offer. CoreWeave began as an Ethereum miner in 2017 and shifted its hardware to AI once Ethereum dropped GPU mining in 2022, according to Decrypt. Bitcoin miners took the same path, turning power sites into AI hosting facilities. Bernstein found that in the two years to July 2026, miners signed about 7 gigawatts of capacity across 19 deals worth over $135 billion (USD) with hyperscalers, neoclouds and chipmakers, still under a quarter of the 30 gigawatts miners have planned.

Why this matters for you

For anyone holding CoreWeave, Nebius or IREN through a portfolio or wallet-linked brokerage, this sell-off shows how fast debt-heavy GPU bets can swing. CoreWeave posted nearly $1.4 billion (USD) in depreciation against $2.6 billion (USD) revenue last quarter, per Decrypt. Bitcoin miner shareholders in TeraWulf, Cipher and Hut 8 now carry AI hosting risk too, through leases with Google, Amazon and Anthropic. Builders tracking DePIN tokens like Render, Akash and io.net should note that token-based compute networks chase the same demand, without the same balance-sheet debt. Everyday AI users could feel it if smaller neoclouds fold before 2030.

The bigger question

CoreWeave says its 2027 capacity is nearly sold out, with deals into 2028. Gartner says most neoclouds will not stand alone past 2030. Both could hold true if the sector consolidates instead of collapsing. Will AI demand stay strong enough, long enough, for these firms to repay their GPU debt, or do today's clusters become tomorrow's stranded assets?

What to watch

Track CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN earnings for fresh depreciation and debt figures. Gartner's 2030 deadline sets the benchmark against which the 30-gigawatt Bitcoin-miner power pipeline gets tested. CoreWeave's contracts booked into 2028 offer an earlier checkpoint. Bonuz.market will keep watching how GPU and crypto-mining hosting deals feed the compute demand behind AR and smart-glasses hardware.
