Securitize Shares Fall 38% After Solana Stock Tokens

Securitize Stock Drops 38% as Tokenized Stocks Launch

Securitize's stock dropped 38% since it launched tokenized Apple, Nvidia and Tesla shares on Solana on 8 October 2025. The fall shows that wrapping stocks into tokens does not guarantee buyer demand, a lesson for wallet users storing tokenized assets.

What actually happened

Securitize traded at $7.81 (USD) near 1:13pm ET on Thursday, down 15% that day and 38% below its 8 October close of $12.66, according to DL News. Shares rose 11% on launch day, then fell 14% on 12 October and 13% on 16 October. Citi cut its rating to neutral from buy on 13 October, citing unclear tokenization revenue and lock-up risk. The rollout covers 12 US stocks, including Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Tesla, Meta and Palantir. Securitize wrote on X that holders get "tokenized positions backed 1:1 by actual shares, with shareholder rights intact." No trading volumes or holder counts have been disclosed.

How we got here

Securitize is not alone on Solana. Wallets holding the xStocks Apple token on the network grew from about 15,400 in July to roughly 43,000 by 8 October, per Solana Compass data. Solana carried 34% of all tokenized stock trading last week, near $120 million daily, according to Stakecake figures. A 17 September SEC Innovation Exemption lets new venues offer tokenized stocks only if tokens mirror real shareholder rights, ruling out synthetic copies. Robinhood's debt based stock tokens do not qualify for US investors under this framework.

Why this matters for you

For everyday wallet holders, this is a reminder to check what backs a stock token before buying it. A token backed 1:1 by real shares differs from a synthetic derivative, and only the former currently meets US rules. For bonuz ecosystem users exploring tokenized assets, a falling issuer stock price alongside no published volume data shows early hype does not equal usage. Builders face a tougher bar too: equity tokens must replicate real ownership rights, not just track price. Issuer pushback from firms like Microsoft and Alphabet could keep more household names off tokenized venues.

The bigger question

If a tokenized share legally carries the same rights as the real stock, what actually changes for the person holding it in a wallet? Securitize says its tokens convert into registered shares once issuers adopt tokenization, yet issuer objections and thin early trading suggest the model remains untested. Does tokenization mainly speed up settlement and access, or does it just relocate where ownership records are kept?

What to watch

OKXICE cannot launch trading before 3 November 2025, 30 days after its 4 October public notice, and has not confirmed a date. The NYSE's planned 24/7 tokenized trading platform also has no launch date yet. Securitize, listed on the NYSE since July, reports third quarter earnings in November, which should reveal real demand for its tokens.
